Not many people know or would guess that I was the President of the Future Homemakers of America my senior year in High School and went to college on a scholarship planning to be a Home Economics Major......I'll bet they don't even have a Home Economics department in colleges any more....not to mention that girls don't learn to cook and sew in High School. I have fond memories about that old, worn, faithful black Singer treadle sewing machine that I used in High School. The reason for this walk down memory lane is that today I HATE to sew, don't cook and don't clean much either....I can do all of those things very well....just don't like to very much any more. However...this weekend was an exception and I did complete a sewing project as you can see above and did it on a 37 year old Singer sewing machine that I received from my parents as a High School graduation gift.......I'll bet no one is asking for those at graduation these days.
We have a very nice bedspread and shams that match...but no curtains or throw pillows. We had a shower curtain that matched the set that we no longer use since we have an enclosed shower....so...... thinking green.... I took the shower curtain and recycled it into a pair of curtains and two pillows for the bed. That is not where the innovation ended....I found that my pillow form for the rectangular pillow was short about four inches...so....I stuffed the end with panty hose...now that is definitely green recycling. It all looks great....I hated doing it and my fingers are numb from hand stitching the pillows closed...but it was worth the effort....Take a look yourself. Martha Stewart doesn't have anything on Suzy Homemaker Grace!
